Magda Oliveira is an experienced and qualified holistic therapist and has been working for many years with a number of therapies that can help to ease a wide variety of conditions.

In order to offer the most effective soothing and healing treatment she combines various massage techniques, Ayurvedic acupressure, Lymphatic drainage and Reflexology with firm or light pressure depending on the needs and preferences of the client.

In her practice Magda Oliveira especially focuses on women's physical and mental health issues, including PMS, menopausal problems, fertility challenges, pregnancy, depression, migraines, exhaustion, insomnia,  muscular aches, pains and stiffness among many others.

Magda completed my M.A. in History in 2001 and soon she came to realize that she did not feel inspired about teaching anymore. Her passion for Complementary Therapies was sparked about ten years ago, in 2004, after she attended a short massage workshop in London, and from that day she is a holistic health enthusiast.

Therapist Magda Oliveira is a member of Complementary Therapists Association (CThA), Embody, ITEC and VTCT.

Ayurvedic Massage

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the traditional Indian system of natural medicine - in Sanskrit Ayur means life, Veda means science - combining nutritional advice, yoga and massage techniques to preserve wellbeing, delay the signs of ageing and treat illness the natural way.

According to Ayurvedic tradition, the body is an individual combination of 5 elements (space, air, fire, water and earth) which shape person's unique constitution (dosha).

There are three energies known as Dosha and classified as follows:

- Vata Dosha - Ether/Wind Elements

- Pita Dosha - Fire/Water Elements

- Kapha Dosha - Water/Earth Elements

When the constitution is in balance, health is maintained. However, when imbalances occur, discomforts, diseases and premature ageing follow.

The guiding principal of Ayurveda is disease prevention and harmonizing body's rhythm with nature.

One way to create this balance is through Body Marma-Point Massage (in Sanskrit: Marma Abhyanga).

Ayurvedic Body Massage

Ayurvedic Body Massage is a purifying and invigorating therapy which combines traditional Ayurvedic massage techniques and acupressure of Marma points (specific energy centres), promoting healing, releasing physical and emotional blockages, helping to eliminate toxins from the system, regenerating the whole body for renewed health and vitality.

This treatment involves massage with warm organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic sesame oil (or other oil if requested by the client) which can be combined with unique Ayurvedic herbal oils leaving skin naturally revitalized.

What is it good for?

Rheumatism, muscular tension, joint stiffness, fatigue, insomnia, detox, reduction of the signs of aging, obesity, arthritis, stress and its related conditions, digestive disor

Full Body Massage

Full Body Massage can be suitable to treat muscular tension, pain and stiffness. When we get tense or stressed, our muscles build up lactic acid ‘knots’ which prevent them from working smoothly. As a result of this process, muscles pull our bones out of their correct alignment which can lead to poor posture, pain and other problems. Massage helps to break down these knots relaxing the muscles.

Full Body Massage enables body and mind to relax reducing the effects of stress related conditions like fatigue, soreness, high blood pressure, insomnia, low immunity and depression.

Following illness, injury or disease, we may be in a state of "imbalance". When vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning properly Full Body Massage can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and to encourage healing.

Being aware of the stigma attached to massage it might be important to reassure potential clients that I am a professional Holistic Massage Therapist and I offer my treatments respecting the client's modesty at all times. The client is covered in soft towels, which are turned back to reveal only the area to be massaged at that time. Areas massaged in a full body massage are normally, back, neck, shoulders, arms, front of shoulders, front and back of legs, feet, head and face.

However, in order to offer the most effective soothing and healing treatment every session can be tailored to the areas that need most work, for example: back, neck, shoulders and feet depending on the needs and preferences of the client. Client is welcome to choose one of the offered organic massage oils for the most relaxing effect.

MLD - Manual Lymphatic Drainage

This powerful, yet subtle technique can reduce or prevent fluid retention (lymph), enhance the removal of toxins from body tissues, and support the immune system.

The lymphatic system is responsible for helping fluid and waste leave the body and for regulating the immune system. When the lymphatic system becomes blocked, fluid builds up and stagnates, causing the entire system to become toxic, making us feel sluggish and more susceptible to viral or contagious diseases.

By stimulating this system through massage, it works more efficiently, which in turn boosts the immune system, clears blockages, eliminates toxins, transports nutrients to cells and increases the metabolism.

Unlike some other form of massage, lymphatic drainage utylises very light pressure as many lymph vessels can be found just under the surface of the skin. In order to move the lymph the only very light touch is required, barely the weight of a teaspoon of water.

Practitioners use flat hands ans finger pads, in painless, rhythmic pumping movements in the direction of the lymph nodes.

More and more women are finding that a weekly or monthly massage during pregnancy helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

The caring touch of Massage may help women to experience their changing bodies in a positive, accepting way.

Pregnancy massage can also provide emotional support (especially for those women who are going through the experience alone).

This relaxing massage treatment is designed to ease pregnancy related aches and pains, soothe tired muscles and calm the mind.

Pregnant clients report that their massage sessions leave them feeling relaxed and comfortable, and with increased self-confidence and an enhanced body image.

Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, massage can either be conducted on a massage couch or on a chair supported by cushions.

However, massage during pregnancy should be avoided by women with placental dysfunctions, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, toxaemia or threatened miscarriage.

Reflexology
£30 - £60

Reflexology

Reflexology, which has its roots in ancient Egypt, China and India, works on the principle that every organ and system of the body has a corresponding point or zone in the feet.

For example, the spot in the centre of the big toe corresponds to the pituitary gland, and on the ball of the foot underneath the big toe there is a point that corresponds to the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Tension or congestion in any part of the foot mirrors tension or congestion in a corresponding part, and treating the whole foot may have a deeply relaxing and healing effect on the whole body.

Our ancestors walked and ran barefoot over uneven ground. As a result of it, the nerve endings and reflex points on the feet received regular, natural massage as they moved around.

On the contrary, nowdays we spend much of our time sitting down, and when we do walk, it is on hard, flat surfaces, wearing thick-soled shoes to cushion our feet.

Women sometimes wear high heels putting extra pressure on some areas, and failing to stimulate others.

Using practitioner's thumb pressure to massage each point on the feet and ankles, Reflexology works towards bringing the body into a state of balance, encouraging the its systems to work to their optimum and enabling self-healing processes.

Reflexology can be used to treat a wide range of disorders including skin and respiratory conditions, migraine, PMS and menopausal problems, chronic fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety.

This holistic therapy can be used both to help with conditions such as, for example, eczema, insomnia, bronchitis or it can be used to keep the body’s energy flowing and the mind in balance.
