CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON - BSc (Hons) MB ChB FRCS FRCOphth MBA

After qualifying from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Mr Perera won a World Health Organisation scholarship to train in ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1991, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993.

After training in hospitals in the South Thames region he was appointed as an Ophthalmologist to the Royal Navy in 1994. He joined the NHS in January 1996 and is currently a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust and Prince Charles Eye Unit Windsor.

Mr Perera's areas of special interest are Primary Care Ophthalmology, cataract surgery with monofocal/ multifocal/toric lens implantation and laser refractive surgery. He has performed more than 20,000 cataract and laser refractive surgical procedures. Mr Perera has presented scientific papers on laser eye surgery at international conferences and has been involved in teaching refractive surgery. He is an accredited laser refractive surgeon having obtained the certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON - MA, FRCS, FRCOphth

Mr. Luff qualified from Oxford University and Guy's Hospital Medical School and initially trained as a General Surgeon, before moving to Ophthalmology in 1988. After Fellowship postings at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Mr. Luff was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Southampton Eye Unit in 1995, where he developed a particular interest in Vitreo-retinal and cataract surgery.

Mr Luff works closely with the Academic Department of Ophthalmology in Southampton and
was one of the original pioneers of intravitreal injection used in the treatment of Wet age-related macular degeneration.

Mr Luff is qualified to use LENSAR™ femtosecond laser technology for cataract and Clarivu (RLE) procedures.

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON - MBBS

Originally from the West Country he trained at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London qualifying with the University of London in 2001. After training in the Oxford region he completed his higher specialist surgical training on the peninsular rotation {Devon) gaining fellowship to the Royal College
of Ophthalmologists.

He is fully trained in small and micro incision (keyhole) cataract surgery using a range of injectable lenses including toric and multifocal. He has dual fellowship training in Glaucoma and Oculoplastic surgery. His first fellowship was in Oculoplastics and Orbital surgery in Auckland (New Zealand) under the world respected surgeons Paul Rosser, Brian Sloan and Richard Hart. His second fellowship was in Glaucoma with Professor Phillip Bloom at the Western and Hillingdon hospitals (London).

Mr Kersey is the lead glaucoma surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital. He is passionate about teaching and has run regional and national surgical workshops in oculoplastics, glaucoma and cataract surgery for a number of years, training eye surgeons of all grades.

Professor Simon Taylor treats patients with many ophthalmic problems, but has a particular interest in diseases of the retina and in surgery for cataract and glaucoma. He has an international reputation in the treatment of retinal and inflammatory ocular diseases and has published over 100 papers and lectured widely on these subjects.

Professor Taylor took a first in medicine at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge before training as an ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. His research training was at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and he received a PhD from Imperial College London in 2009. Simon completed his ophthalmology training as a Clinical Lecturer at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, having completed Fellowship training at both Moorfields and Harvard Medical School.

Professor Taylor was accredited onto the Specialist Register as an ophthalmologist in September 2011 and was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in the December of that year. He was appointed joint Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and Director of R&D for the Trust in 2014, and Professor of Ophthalmology in 2015.

Professor Taylor prides himself on offering patients the latest available treatments for their eye conditions and he runs an extensive research programme of clinical trials and laboratory research supported by the National Institute of Health Research and other grant-awarding bodies.

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON - MB, MRCPI, FRCSI, FRCOphth

Ms Gilvarry initially qualified in medicine at University College, Dublin, before specialising in Ophthalmology. Further training at Dublin's Mater Hospital and the Western Ophthalmic Hospital in London led to a role as Senior Registrar at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital.

In 1990, Ms Gilvarry accepted the role of Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, where she is still Lead Clinician. Her research and experience have mainly concentrated on the anterior portion of the eye, and her work as a cataract surgeon has gained her international recognition.

Ms Gilvarry is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, and for the last five years she has also
held the role of Acting Chairman of the Royal Surrey County Hospitals Surgical Care Group. She counts the amalgamation of the Royal Surrey and Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals eye departments among her most notable achievements.

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON

Mr Steven Harsum is based at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust where he was audit lead, clinical lead for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy as well as a college tutor. He is now Lead Clinician for Ophthalmology. During his medical degree Mr Harsum was selected for the prestigious MBPhD course, which combines a second degree with a three year research doctorate (PhD) and fast-track medical training.

Mr Harsum has recently undertaken a number of charity trips to Guyana and Burma where he treated people with complex cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and glaucoma.

Mr Kheterpal received his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Oxford, England. His Ophthalmology training was carried out at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre and the world famous Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He received his certificate of completion of specialist training in 1999 when he was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor. He has membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He has extensive experience in all aspects of ocular surgery and in particular has several years' experience in Jasik, lasek, wavefront technology and also has performed many thousands of intraocular lens implants.

Mr Kheterpal has corrected the vision of doctors, professionals, sportsmen, policemen, firemen and patients from all vocations and backgrounds. He lectures regularly on local, national and international circuits and trains Ophthalmic Surgeons in all aspects of refractive surgery. He attends international meetings and is involved in many publications and articles. Mr Kheterpal also has membership of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

He has won 14 prizes (national and international) including “The Treacher Collins Video Prize”  at The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress, UK, 2014 and “Best Video” at the International Congress on Glaucoma Surgery, Singapore, 2014. 

Mr Lindfield is guest editor for Journal of Glaucoma    and reviews scientific papers for seven journals (Eye, Journal of Glaucoma, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, European Journal of Ophthalmology, Innovait (General Practice Journal). 
 
 Extensive and comprehensive Ophthalmology training completely within the UK including subspecialty training in glaucoma and advanced glaucoma surgical techniques. 
 
Mr Lindfield continues to give invited national and international lectures across many clinical areas, most specifically glaucoma and medical education. In 2014 he won “Best Presentation: Glaucoma” at an international ophthalmology meeting in Leipzig, Germany. He has special interest in patient education and surgical training.

He regularly arranges patient education meetings and “hands-on” surgical training courses for trainees across the south of England. 
 
Mr Lindfield has published and lectured throughout the UK and Europe on ECP (Endoscopic Cyclophotocoagulation : “keyhole laser within the eye to treat glaucoma”). He advises surgeons who are new to this technique on operative technique, patient selection and aftercare. 

Mr Lindfield is a surgical trainer for a regional glaucoma surgery “wet lab” and has practical and research experience in utilising computer simulation to train tomorrows surgeons. 
 
In 2003 Mr Lindfield and a colleague spent 4 months in Paraguay establishing a TB (Tuberculosis) screening and treatment programme for remote areas. He won the Southampton University prize for “outstanding achievement” with this project.

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON

Mr Moin Mohamed is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in medical retinal disease, AMD and cataract surgery in patients with pre-existing retinal disorders. Mr Mohamed is a consultant at St Thomas' Hospital, London and The London Clinic, Harley Street. He undertook his training in Sheffield and Leeds with advanced specialty training in retinal disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He was the recipient of a prestigious Wellcome Trust Fellowship, leading to the award of a PhD for original research into the molecular and genetic basis of inherited eye disease, at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine.

Mr Mohamed now specialises in medical retinal disease (including diabetes, age-related macular degeneration and genetic eye diseases) and cataract surgery in patients with pre-existing retinal disorders. He also has a particular interest in utilising new laser and intra-vitreal injection strategies in the management of these conditions. In addition to running a large medical retinal service, he has a teaching and training commitment for trainee ophthalmologists, is responsible for clinical audit in Ophthalmology at St Thomas', and is involved with an international link for teaching and training at the University Eye Clinic in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

She was the winner of the Best Poster Presentation Prize at the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Annual Meeting in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and the winner of the Robert Hardwick Postgraduate Innovation Prize at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2012.

Ms Pelosini is the author of over 20 peer review publications in prestigious international academic journals including Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Archives of Ophthalmology, Retina, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Eye. She has conducted innovative research in macular imaging and novel sub-threshold laser treatment for diabetes and is regularly invited to present academic papers in national and international meetings.

She was the winner of the Best Poster Presentation Prize at the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Annual Meeting in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and the winner of the Robert Hardwick Postgraduate Innovation Prize at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2012.
