Hamilton Eye Clinic

Moved to the UK in 1998 after his medical school and ophthalmic residency in India. Whilst in the UK, he did his higher specialist training in ophthalmology and worked in various prestigious hospitals including Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield. After his medical retinal fellowship in Nottingham, he moved to New Zealand in 2008 and has been working in Hamilton as a specialist ever since. His special interests include macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and refractive surgery. He works at Waikato Public Hospital, Hamilton Eye Clinic, Laser Eye Centre and Bridgewater Day Surgery.

Trained in Medicine at Auckland School of Medicine and in Ophthalmology in Auckland, Hamilton and Bristol, England. He undertook higher training as Retinal Fellow at Bristol Eye Hospital and Bristol University. He returned to a consultant post at Waikato Hospital Eye Department in 1991 to introduce vitreoretinal surgery and sub-specialty medical retina to the Waikato. Outside of Hamilton Eye Clinic, David is a visiting ophthalmologist in the Department of Ophthalmology, Waikato Hospital. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer for the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Auckland and a Researcher for the Department of Physics and Engineering, Waikato University (research into computerized retinal image analysis).

Completed his high school education at Auckland Grammar School before moving to Dunedin to study medicine at the University of Otago. After graduating in 1998 he worked as a junior doctor at Wellington Hospital, which included one year as a Senior House Officer in Ophthalmology. He then moved back to Auckland to work in the Ophthalmology Department at Auckland Hospital. This was followed by an appointment as a clinical research fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Auckland where he completed a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) research degree in 2004. Hussain then completed 5 years of advanced registrar training in Ophthalmology in Hamilton and Auckland leading to Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).
