Cataract surgery underwent a change of paradigm from simply exchanging the clouded lens by a more or less suitable spherical intraocular lens (IOL) to a procedure where the choice of the best fitting lens became the goal. IOLs are nowadays ideally customized to the needs of the patient. These so called premium IOLs include aspheric lenses for better contrast sensitivity and night driving, yellow filter lenses for affected retinas as well as multifocal and accommodative lenses for the combination of far and near vision. For cataract surgery, we use the most advanced surgical tool, a Femtosecond laser, which guarantees the perfect placement of the lens and is much more gentle for the eye.
