What are Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces are braces placed on the inner side or the tongue side of teeth. They are the most invisible among braces. They are often used as a brace option for adult and adolescent patients. They are also a good option for patients who take part in contact sports. It takes two to three hours to fit lingual braces.

How long should I wear Lingual Braces?

Patients need to wear lingual braces for from one to four years. The length of time depends on the unique requirements of each individual patient.

Is getting Lingual Braces fitted painful?

Fitting lingual braces is not painful. Patients may feel pain or discomfort until they get used to wearing lingual braces. Getting adjusted to lingual braces may take a week or ten days. Pain killers are prescribed to make adjustment easy.

How are Lingual Braces fitted?

An impression of the teeth of patients is taken and customized brackets are fabricated. The brackets are glued on the inner surface of teeth and wires are woven through the brackets and secured. The braces work by exerting pressure on teeth and moving them to the correct position.

What care is required after fitting Lingual Braces?

Patients should take the prescribed medications correctly. They should attend orthodontist appointments correctly and get their braces adjusted. They should avoid eating hard food products. They should practice correct dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth regularly.

I've never had such professional people looking after my smile beforeSadie, UK, 30 08 22

Well here I am, 11 months into my treatment consisting of almost a full mouth of dental implants. I did months of research before I chose this practice, I knew it was a huge undertaking and commitment and I was extremely nervous. I've had easy appointments and I've had more difficult appointments but throughout my treatment I never felt any discomfort or pain. And most importantly I trusted my Doctors. The chairs that I have my treatment in are out of this world! So comfy I've even nodded off during treatment and had to be poked awake! I'm not saying it's fun but it's as good as it can get at this surgery. I will be grateful forever for the wonderful care and expertise I receive here. I'm almost finished treatment, as I write this today, my implants are about to have the first fitting tomorrow and I'm so excited. I've carefully chosen from the options available, with expert advice and after a whole year I will finally have a perfect smile again. I'm 66 now and a smoker so if I can do it, so can you! It's the best decision of my life. I'd like to say a special thank you to Doctor Aziz, who has looked after me so well, he can make you laugh through the whole process, which is a gift in itself. The prices were completely fair when the standard of treatment is considered. I've never had such professional people looking after my smile before! Thank you to everyone at Cathedral Road Dentist for an unforgettable experience! I wish I could give you 10 stars and a trophy!

Lingual Braces from from £2650
The term lingual braces refers to the attachment of custom made braces on the inner surface of the tooth, inside the mouth where they are totally inconspicuous. Traditional fixed braces have the brackets cemented onto the front of the teeth, therefore lingual braces are a cosmetic alternative. However, lingual braces have a lengthier and more difficult treatment time and they may not be suitable for all cases.
Metal Braces from from £2500
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces used to straighten and align your teeth. Today’s metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel, which are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive than in the past. Metal wires are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth through brackets. These wires are tightened over time, applying gentle pressure to the teeth which encourages them to move into a straighter position.
Clear Braces
Invisalign (Removable Clear Braces) from from £1800
Invisalign is a clear orthodontic system for closing gaps and straightening crooked teeth. It is a removable, clear and cosmetic alternative to traditional fixed braces, similar to Smile TRU. Invisalign uses three-dimensional modelling to generate a series of clear aligners or “clear braces”. They are often referred to by many patients as “invisible braces”. The clear removable aligners are custom made and replaced every 2 weeks. Over time, they move your teeth into a position that gives you straight teeth, worthy of a big smile.

Metal Braces
Metal Fixed Braces (One Arch) from £1900
Traditional metal ‘traintrack’ braces are a fixed brace system. For years, these braces have provided beautifully straight teeth for both adults and children, enhancing smiles and building self-confidence. They use precision-engineered metal brackets, which are strong and small to improve comfort and appearance. You can choose to customise the braces with different colours of elastic bands around the metal brackets. This option is particularly popular with patients who are under 18. The braces can also be worn on the upper teeth and the lower teeth, or just the upper teeth or front teeth, depending on your needs. Treatment normally lasts between 6-18 months, during which time the device is comfortable to wear and easy to clean. To discuss whether a traditional metal ‘traintrack’ brace is right for you, ring Stoke Bishop Dental  or email us.
