    Guy is Queensway Orthodontics specialist orthodontist. This means he has completed an extended period of training in orthodontics in addition to his general dental training.

    Guy qualified with honours in dentistry at the University of Newcastle. He then completed his specialist training in orthodontics at Guys and Kingston Hospitals in London where he was awarded the Professor Walther prize in orthodontics.

    As well as leading the orthodontic team at Queensway Orthodontics, Guy is a visiting specialist in the Orthodontic Department at Newcastle Dental Hospital, where he is involved in teaching trainee orthodontists. He also sits on the Orthodontic Specialist Group committee of the British Orthodontic Society.

    Guys clinical interests include adult orthodontics, orthodontic treatment for woodwind and brass musicians and the use of lingual and self-ligating fixed appliances. Guy is a certified provider of Incognito lingual appliances and Invisalign clear aligners.

    When not at work Guy enjoys spending time listening to and playing music, cooking, photography and spending time with his partner Katharine and son Eli.

    After graduating from the University of Leeds Dental School in 1992, Diana spent a further year there as a house officer before moving on to a senior house officer post in oral and maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in Derbyshire.

    Diana joined Queensway Dental Practice in 1995 where she enjoys the variety of working in a large general practice and has been able to continue her interest in orthodontics developed over the last ten years.

    Outside of work, Diana likes to get out hill walking or in the garden and has completed evening classes in computing and Spanish.

Dr Uzma Olbrich

Uzma qualified from Newcastle Dental School in 1996. She completed her general Professional Training at Newcastle Dental Hospital before joining Queensway as a full time associate in 1998.

In 2000 she completed her Diploma in Conscious Sedation. She has actively been involved in the published research carried out at Queensway Anxiety Management Clinic, pioneering conscious sedation techniques in children with over 9 years experience in treating highly anxious patients.

Uzma is has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and attends cosmetic dentistry courses. She has completed the Restorative Aesthetic Dentistry course led by the esteemed Michael Wise and is currently studying an MSc in Restorative Cosmetic Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire.

Dr Paul Averley

Paul qualified from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University, School of Dental Sciences in 1990. Following his vocational training, Paul has been involved for many years with innovating, leading and delivering services in primary care at Queensway Dental Clinic. In 1995 Paul completed his extended training in conscious sedation at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. By 1997 he had completed his diploma in conscious sedation. Additionally, in 1997, Paul obtained the Royal College of Surgeons’ Faculty of General Dental Practitioners’ Diploma in General Dental Practice.

Since 1997, Paul has been involved in establishing conscious sedation services in primary care to reduce dependency on hospital based general anaesthesia. This involvement led him to develop the evidence base for new conscious sedation techniques resulting in his achieving a Master of Philosophy in 2003 followed by a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2005 from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Following his PhD, Paul was invited to become a visiting academic for the University where he regularly contributes to the training of postgraduates in the Diploma and Conscious Sedation.

Most recently, in 2008, Paul completed his extended training in implant dentistry at the University of Warwick Medical School where he gained Master of Science in implant dentistry. In 2009 Paul was invited to become a regional tutor of implant dentistry for the University of Warwick.

Dr Ian Lane

Ian qualified with an Honours degree from Newcastle University in 1998. In 2001, Ian was awarded the MFGDP qualification and this was followed by the Diploma in Conscious Sedation in 2002 from Newcastle University. Ian has developed an interest in implant and reconstructive dentistry and has been very active in postgraduate education in this field since attending a Nobel Biocare Implant Introduction in 2002. Ian has been a partner at Queensway since 2006 and is responsible for ensuring high standards of dental care are provided for all NHS and Private patients that visit this large North East referral centre. Ian has also been involved in some university research projects in implant care and conscious sedation. Ian is currently the chair of the Tees Sedation Network, which is responsible for liasing with dentists across the Tees region who have an interest in delivering high quality conscious sedation for NHS patients.

Ian has shown continued commitment to further education with his three year MSc implant programme at Warwick University, where he was awarded “best implant student in 2008”. Ian is keen to provide whole patient care where dentistry is delivered in a conservative and minimally invasive manner. This MSc qualification resulted in Ian and Paul Averley being awarded regional tutor status for the Warwick University Implant Msc programme and GIFT Implant training. In the last 3 years Ian has attended a one year restorative and aesthetic course with Paul Tipton in Manchester, a surgical implant and bone grafting course at Paris Medical School and an Advanced All-on-4™ guided surgery residency with Paulo Malo in Lisbon, Portugal. Ian has also attended various scientific meetings in London, Manchester and in Gothenburg, Sweden.
