Dr Shanks holds degrees in both Dentistry and Biochemistry. Early in her career, she was a House Officer at Guys Hospital London, and a Commissioned Officer in the Territorial Army Medical Reserve. She has subsequently gained wide experience in general practice both as an associate and, since 1997, as the principal of De Parys Dental Care. She has a particular interest in restorative work and completed the Dr Paul Tipton post-graduate Manchester and London courses in Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry in 2003 and 2011 respectively.
