Problems with wisdom teeth can arise because your jaw may not be large enough to accommodate them, and they may become impacted and unable to break through the gum properly. Any unerupted tooth that has formed but failed to emerge into the mouth can damage surrounding teeth, gums and supporting bone. Because of this risk, unerupted teeth are often surgically extracted. As already mentioned, this is often the case with wisdom teeth. However, it is common to find unerupted canine teeth sitting in the palate (roof of mouth). We can pull these teeth slowly into position with the use of orthodontic appliances after surgically exposing them.
