What is meant by wisdom tooth extraction?

Wisdom teeth are the third molars that are found on each side of the upper and lower jaw. They are the last teeth to erupt and often do not erupt but remain below the gumline. Impacted, or crowded, teeth that have not erupted cause pain and swelling. The dentist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon will extract the tooth for the patients' comfort. The extraction of a wisdom tooth takes from ten minutes to one hour.

Are wisdom teeth extractions painful?

Local anaesthesia is injected before a wisdom tooth is extracted. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure. Anxious patients are given a sedative before the procedure.

What is the recovery time after wisdom teeth extractions?

It takes up to three weeks to completely recover from a wisdom tooth extraction.

When can I travel by air after having wisdom teeth extracted?

Patients can travel by air two days after having wisdom teeth extracted, after consulting with their dentist or surgeon.

What care is required after having wisdom teeth extracted?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should gently rinse their mouth with salt water frequently. They should not rinse their mouths or brush their teeth vigorously for a few days. Patients should sleep with their head elevated. They should avoid vigorous exercise and lifting heavy objects for at least a week. They should use ice packs to reduce any swelling. They should not eat very hot or very cold food for a few days.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Treatment Duration: 45 – 60 minutes Wisdom teeth are located at the very back of the mouth and tend to come through in when in your twenties or later. This often causes problems with space in the mouth (impacted) when they are ‘erupting’ leading to pain and infection. In some cases wisdom teeth can only be removed by an oral surgeon in which case our dentist will refer you. If you are in pain from your wisdom teeth please contact us immediately. We will ensure we see you as soon as possible. There is a possibility our dentist may not be able to remove your wisdom tooth that day, but we will help with any pain and prescribe antibiotics if required. What to expect from your visit to White Smile Dental: Once you have made an appointment you will be sent a reminder text the day before with your appointment details and our address. Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out a new patient form and take a seat in our comfortable waiting area. During your appointment, our dentist will check the affected area and take xrays if required. He will discuss all options available to you and clearly outline the cost and time frame of treatment. At this point, if possible, you may decide to have the tooth removed there and then or arrange to come back at a more convenient time. In some cases you will need to be referred to an oral surgeon. We will help facilitate this for you if you wish. Aftercare notes are given at the end of your appointment to guide you post treatment.
Extractions from €60
Treatment Duration: 30 – 60 minutes A tooth may need to be removed from the mouth if it cannot be saved through any other treatment. Most commonly teeth are extracted when a tooth is broken through trauma/accident, decay or if it is loose. There are many reasons an extraction may be required. It is important to consult your dentist regarding a dental plan. There are two types of tooth extraction: Simple extraction: This is the most common type of extraction and is very straight forward. This type of extraction occurs when the tooth is visible or loose in the mouth. Surgical extraction: This is a more complicated procedure and is necessary if a tooth is broken at the gum line or is below the gum line. This type of extraction takes more time and in some instances can only be carried out by an oral surgeon. If this is the case our dentist will refer you to an oral surgeon. Wisdom Tooth Extraction €200 - €400
Wisdom Teeth ExtractionHow the wisdom teeth extraction is done? Before removing a wisdom tooth, your dentist will give you a local anaesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. To remove the wisdom tooth, your dentist will open up the gum tissue over the tooth and take out any bone that is covering the tooth. He or she will separate the tissue connecting the tooth to the bone and then remove the tooth. Sometimes the dentist will cut the tooth into smaller pieces to make it easier to remove. One area of speciality areas within dentistry is known as oral surgery and this applies to procedures of a surgical nature, such as the extraction of teeth or wisdom teeth. Oral surgery requires additional training in techniques to perform procedures with care, helping patients to be able to use their teeth and mouths again. If you have advanced tooth decay or an impacted wisdom tooth, you may require oral surgery to have them safely extracted. Depending on your particular case and the severity of your problem, you will be given anaesthetic and offered sedation if you are anxious. IMPORTANT: Do not pull out your own teeth! It is important to always get the advice of a dental professional if you are worried about any of your teeth. Never attempt to pull out your own tooth out at home as this could cause a more serious problem for you. Dentists have the right equipment and sterile environment in which to perform this type of procedure with the utmost care and your recovery can be fairly quick. In the case of wisdom teeth extractions you may have some swelling after the procedure and discomfort that can be eased with over the counter painkillers.
Dentist Consultation
Routine Examination: Initial consultation, examination, diagnosis and treatment plan!A healthy mouth is an important part of overall wellness and well-being. During a dental consultation at Dental Artistry your dentist will give you a full oral assessment to establish your oral health. And recommend the best treatments if needed. Your dentist will examine: old fillings, crowns, veneers and the health of your gum. If X-Rays are required there would be an additional fee. X-Rays can better assist the dentist to see any changes in your bone, or in the root of teeth. Decay both inside and between the teeth, that is hard to see.  The dentist will be able to see the position of roots and its surroundings. Solutions for all issues will be proposed to you, and you will receive a personalised treatment plan. This will outline the costs and options that you may have in relation to preventing any further problems that may arise. Our dentist will help you choose the best possible option.
Dental Implants €1250 - €1550
Dental Implants are the best option to replace failing or missing teeth!Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, they allow your dentist to mount replacement teeth onto them. Implants can be used to replace an individual tooth or for an implant-supported bridge or denture containing multiple teeth.

Grand Canal Dental Clinic

The standard of care I received was second to noneCiaran, UK, 08 02 23

I was in agony over Christmas with a deep cavity in one of my back molars. I booked in to see a local dentist in Sutton and they advised an extraction was needed. They tried to pull the tooth but it was excruciating as the anaesthetic did not take. I could not go through with the extraction. Having previously undergone a root canal at Grand Canal Dental and experienced no pain, I booked an appointment with Dr. Tarpey in the hope that he could remove the tooth with minimal pain and he did not disappoint! I experienced no pain during or after the extraction. The standard of care I received was second to none. Can't recommend Grand Canal Dental enough.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction €300 - €1000
Wisdom teeth are the large molars found at the very back of the jaw. They are the last teeth to appear (erupt) in the mouth, usually between the ages of 18 and 24 years, although this can vary. If the jaw is too small to accommodate them, they may cause pain or crowd other teeth out of position. Impaction means that the tooth may be partially trapped by the jawbone, back teeth or gums. These teeth can grow sideways, emerge only part way from the gum or remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Wisdom teeth are extracted for two general reasons: either the wisdom teeth have already become impacted, or the wisdom teeth could potentially become problematic if not extracted. Potential problems include infections caused by food particles easily trapped in the jaw area behind the wisdom teeth where regular brushing and flossing is difficult. Such infections may be frequent, and cause considerable pain. . Other reasons wisdom teeth are removed include misalignment which rubs up against the tongue or cheek causing pain and potential crowding of the remaining teeth.
