Male Breast Reduction

Enlarged male breasts (Gynaecomastia) can be caused by glandular or weight related disorders. Male breast reduction can be carried out, either removing fat through liposuction or a combination of liposuction and surgery. If surgery is necessary to reduce the size of the breasts them the procedure can be quite complex an involve a number of incisions with the associated risks of scarring: Your surgeon should be able to minimise scarring by using the shape of the body to mask the incisions.

River Medical Group

114 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia:  Gynecomastia is the procedure for male chest reduction. Although this is a subject that men rarely talk about it is quite a common condition. During puberty most teenage boys will develop fatty tissue around the chest or breast area which for about 90% usually subsides naturally within a year or so. For the remaining 10% of men it can remain with them for the rest of their adult lives. The severity of the condition varies with each individual. For many men the most simple and effective way of correcting this is using liposuction which removes the pockets of fat that have developed in the chest area. The Procedure: The Consultant Plastic Surgeon will assess whether the area comprises merely of fat or whether there is some breast tissue present. Liposuction is used to remove excess chest fat, through a small incision a hollow metal tube known as a cannula, breaks up the fat beneath the skin. It is then removed by a syringe or vacuum pump. Ultrasound waves or an injection of fluid can also break up the fat. Depending on the extent of the fatty tissue, our Consultant Plastic Surgeon may want to remove any excess breast tissue. This can be done at the same time as liposuction. During your Consultation the Consultant PlasticSurgeon will go through the procedure with you and talk to you about theresults you can expect. You will also get the price of the procedure during theconsultation

The Clinic Sandymount Green

The Clinic, 8 Sandymount Green, Sandymount, Dublin 4
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia: Gynaecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)This is a condition where female like breast development occurs in males. The condition is frequently disturbing to the individual causing him to seek professional advice and ultimately surgical correction. It is particularly prevalent in adolescents. Age Group:Gynaecomastia is particularly prevalent in adolescents. However it also occurs with relative frequency in adults and older men. Assessment:Assessment of the individual with gynaecomastia is based on two fundamentals:1. Is there an underlying condition ? In the vast majority of cases there will be no associated medical condition. A thorough medical history and clinical evaluation must be carried out. 2. In the majority of individuals a detailed assessment of the breast is the basis of a successful outcome. The distribution of glandular breast tissue and fat must be recorded. The significance between the two tissue types is that fat can be successfully removed by liposuction whereas the firmer glandular tissue cannot be suctioned. It must be removed by open surgical excision. Anaesthetic:Local anaesthetic and sedation. General anaesthesia is required in adolescents.Hospitalisation:The majority of patients undergoing surgery for gynaecomastia do not require overnight admission to hospital and they can therefore be treated as day case patients. The Procedure:This entails the reduction of:1. The fibrous glandular tissue which is usually concentrated in the centre of the breast behind the areola / nipple.2. The fat tissue which is distributed more widely throughout the breast.Operation Time:Surgery for gynaecomastia can take approximately one to one and a half hours. Aftercare:An elastic compression garment / vest is worn immediately following the surgery. It is worn for at least four weeks. Medications will include an antibiotic for five to seven days and pain relief.

Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia: Gynacomastia, or the development of a breast gland in men, is a common condition affecting 40 - 60% of men. Commonly occurring in teenagers and ending before adulthood. Other causes include an increase in weight or weight loss – with pockets of fat settling in the chest area that are difficult to remove. Easily treated under general anaesthetic, a small incision is made around the areolar / nipple area and breast tissue is removed. Liposuction may also be used to reshape the chest area.

Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre

20 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia: Chest reduction is an increasingly popular operation in males which removes/reduces enlarged male breasts, commonly referred to as "man boobs" or “moobs”. There are 3 reasons why the male breast enlarges: 1. If there is an abnormal increase in glandular (breast) tissue known as Gynaecomastia.2. If there is an increased deposition of fatty tissue known as Pseudogynaecomastia3. If there is an increase of both glandular and fatty tissue. The most common reason for enlarged breasts in males is Pseudogynaecomastia. During adolescence it is common for the male breast to enlarge and later to decrease to normal size before the age of 21. Gynaecomastia in the late adolescent and adult male may be associated with hormone disorders, hormone producing tumours, liver disease and other rare abnormalities. In addition, various drugs, if taken for long enough can give rise to this embarrassing condition. Usually though, no underlying cause is found. The Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre has successfully performed chest reductions on many men in the last 20 years.

Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia: Male chest reduction (gynaecomastia) is a surgical procedure that flattens and reshapes the chest area by removing excess fat and/or glandular tissue. Excess tissue on the chest is relatively common amongst men and can develop for a variety of reasons including hormonal imbalances/sensitivities, hereditary conditions or weight gain. Very rarely it can be associated with certain drugs in large quantities or organ disease. It can occur on one or both sides of the chest and can range from the size of a grape to woman-like breasts.
