Review My treatment went well. I had a minor mishap my stitches dissolved a little too earlier and I had to go back to Belgium to get the small holes re-stitched, so that cost a bit extra as I had to get another return flight over to get it corrected. I still saved 2,500 euro as I got quoted in Ireland 4500 euro. The hospital in Belgium is excellent the staff speak English and the surgeon Dr. DeDoncker is an expert at his field I couldn't flaw him. Eyelid surgery: The presence of loose, sagging skin (hooding), lines around the eyes (crows feet) and bulging fat under the eyes (bags) – characterise ageing of the eyes. The aim of surgery is to remove sagging skin, lines and bags thus restoring a more youthful, fresh appearance.Age Group:Who is suitable for cosmetic eyelid surgery ? The procedure can be carried out at any age but most candidates are over thirty.Anaesthetic:Most procedures can be carried out under sedation and local anaesthesia. General anaesthesia is optional but rarely necessary.The Procedure:• .• The incisions: in the upper eyelid a surgical incision is made in the eyelid crease and in the lower eyelid an incision is made close to the eyelashes. The incisions frequently must extend out into the crow’s feet / laughter lines area around the eye.• Redundant skin and fat and occasionally muscle are removed.• Bags under the eyes are caused by protruding fat. During surgery this fat is returned to the peri-orbital fat from where it came originally. The supporting layer (orbital septum) is repaired. This is equivalent to repairing a hernia.• Usually the supporting ligament of the lower eyelid requires tightening (canthopexy) to prevent post operative drooping of the eyelid (ectropion).• On completion of the procedure sutures are inserted above and below the eye and steri-strips are applied.Hospitalisation:Blepharoplasty is carried out as a day case procedures. The procedure takes between one and a half to two hours. Overnight admission is optional but rarely necessary.Recovery and Aftercare:The level of discomfort is slight. The eyelids particularly the lower eyelid tend to bruise easily. Vision is unaffected. Light pain relief may be taken. Lubrication of the eye with ointment especially at night is very important. Arnica may also be used for bruising. The sutures are removed after about four days. Bruising usually takes two to three weeks to resolve.

This surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic and may require an overnight hospital stay.
