What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, also known as varicosities, are thick and dark blue or purple veins that are seen in the lower limbs of patients. They are caused by damaged or poorly functioning valves within the veins. Surgical and nonsurgical procedures are used to treat varicose veins.

I did work at the hospital when I was younger building the bungalows and maintenance. I never thought I would end up using the hospital, but I must say the staff and Doctors are amazing. I only wish I was in a position to get private insurance as that is the only hospital I would use if I had the choice.

Varicose Veins How can they be treated? At Beauty Advance Laser Clinic we employ the highest specification of laser /IPL( Intense Pulse Light). This enables the deep blue veins and smaller surface thread veins and spider veins to be treated. This type of application light energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin (bloods red cells) and concentrated to heat energy. Blood coagulates and the vessel wall collapses. In time the vessel is broken down and absorbed by the body. When will you see results? Results can be seen immediately after the application of the laser/IPL. How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments required will depend on the extent of your veins.We recommend on average 1-3. Most varicose veins treatments are literally "walk-in, walk-out" with little, if any, discomfort. We treat all types of varicose veins problems whether it is purely for cosmetic reasons or more severe symptoms or complications including chronic venous insufficiency causing skin problems or leg ulceration. Initially, a detailed assessment of your varicose veins or thread veins will be made by consultation and physical examination. This will be followed by hand-held Doppler assessment (a very basic ultrasound test) and in most cases, a colour venous duplex scan (a detailed vascular ultrasound test) will be arranged before making a final decision regarding the optimal treatment.
