Thame Clinic (MBNS)

Marea Brennan Thorns is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and co-founder of the MBNS Clinic and Qutis Clinics.

Marea originally studied art but after qualifying, changed direction and moved immediately into nurse training. After becoming a registered nurse in 1976, Marea completed a post registration qualification in intensive and coronary care nursing. Armed with this, Marea secured a position as a senior sister and moved to Holland where she specialised in Cardiac Surgery ITU Nursing at the University Hospital of Utrecht for 4 years.

On returning to England Marea found the NHS culture quite different to that in Holland and embarked on a new career in pharmaceutical and medical devices companies. After 12 years and several jobs Marea felt the pull to move back into nursing in independent practice.

In 1996, Marea worked as a peripatetic aesthetic nurse before co-founding Medico Beauty Nurse Services (MBNS) in 1999 with fellow business partner and nurse practitioner, Stephanie Green.

During 2001-2004 Marea chaired the Royal College of Nursing’s forum for nurses working in aesthetic medicine and was a member of the steering group responsible for the development and publication of Aesthetic Nursing Competencies, now available from the RCN.

She has been instrumental in developing advanced soft tissue augmentation injection techniques for lip enhancement, as well as optimal correction of facial lines and facial sculpting. More recently, she has been involved with injection technique training courses, for cosmetic use of [Treatment name removed] Treatments and volumetric lifting of the face. She is a frequent speaker at national professional conferences and seminars.

Marea was a member of the Allergan faculty of VISTABEL® validators.

In June 2007 Marea completed an advanced nurse qualification as an Independent Nurse Prescriber at Oxford Brookes University.

Marea has continued to study at Oxford Brookes University and has recently gained a Master of Science Degree (MSc). Her research dissertation was titled “The transition process from NHS to private practice for nurses working in aesthetic medicine and the experience of mentorship”.

Quite appropriate given her experience!

Paula is a dedicated aesthetic nurse practitioner who joined Marea and Stephanie at MBNS ten years ago. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1984 and has worked within the NHS gastro intestinal and gynecological surgery and then whilst raising her family of four was a lead nurse in geriatric medicine in the private sector. Working with Marea and Stephanie closely in the early days, Paula soon became a very experienced practitioner and qualified as an advanced soft tissue injector. Paula has a passion for all things natural. She enjoys living in the countryside in rural Oxfordshire, and is a keen gardener. This lifestyle emulates the approach she takes to her clients’ treatments. She has trained her eye for treating in a subtle, non invasive way. Working with the client she accentuates naturally their best assets.

We are very excited to have Angela join the MBNS team as receptionist covering Kit Brennan’s maternity leave. Originating from Canadian roots, Angela has spent most of her career specialising in hospitality and as such, brings a welcome smile to all who enter the clinic.

On joining MBNS, Angela has already benefitted from being treated from treatment for Hyperhidrosis.

Angela Says:

“Having spent many years working in hospitality and customer care, I have learned that to provide an optimum level of service for clients often requires a huge amount of energy, whilst maintaining a seamless level of composure. As such, my personal presentation is paramount. During a demanding schedule and having to maintain a pristine appearance, excessive sweating has always presented me with a severe problem, especially under my arms.”

I was embarrassed to talk about this, but fortunately I was able to talk to one of the MBNS nurses as a patient. She was very sympathetic and instilled me with confidence that a short and simple injection treatment would help-she was right! Now I don’t sweat the ‘small stuff’ and can forget that I was ever troubled by excessive perspiration, its made a big difference to my levels of confidence...thank you MBNS!

Adrian joins us from the NHS where he worked for three years as a community staff nurse.  

Prior to nursing Adrian came from a performing arts background, and had various theatre roles,  he even worked as a Karaoke Host on a Caribbean Liner!  He originally met MBNS specialist nurse  when she was teaching on a course he attended. After basic training Adrian was inspired to follow in Paula’s footsteps and apply to work with us at MBNS. His long-term objective is to become a Qutis Franchisee (modelled on MBNS). From August 2011 onwards, he will be working at MBNS on Fridays & Saturdays.

Adrian’s new job title is Nurse Aesthetician and he will be specialising in the Light, Heat and Energy Therapies (  and,  & Cosmetic Teeth Whitening).
