History: This is the modern method of permanently replacing missing teeth. It all started in 1952, when Professor Branemark of Lund, Sweden  found that titanium screws used in the bones of rabbits could not be removed after they healed.

He then realised that the bone “integrated” titanium, and of course, after years of previous trails by surgeons all over the world with many different types of materials, the use of titanium became obvious for dental Implants. He developed the Branemark Institute of Implantology and the company producing the Implants is the  NobelBiocare. Dental Implants have now been in use for over 30 years.

A dental implant is made of pure titanium or titanium alloy, and has almost the same the shape and form of a root.
